The Time Paradox

People can have 3 "time perspectives"; they can be past-oriented, present oriented, or future-oriented. Based on their time orientation people behave differently. It is a conclusion based on research done by the authors of the book.

I fully agree with one of the conclusions of the book “People spend time less wisely than money”. While reading some of the passages of the book I reminded an old proverb: “Time is like a sword; if you don't cut it, it will end up cutting you”. All principles and advices given by the authors to manage and save time are quite good and acceptable but the only issue discussable is for what purpose should the time be used more; work, family life, social life, entertainment or dealing with what you call developing personal values and beliefs like religion etc.

For many scholars there are two types of people; those who live to work and the others who work to live. For each category time has a different perception and it all depends on what you prioritise. So, in my opinion it does not matter so much how are you oriented but it all depends what you put first in the list of priorities and regulate the time based on that.

  1. There's this movie "In Time" with Justin Timberlake in which people did not have cash but time instead. Every transaction was performed with time. Taking a cab: 2 hours. Salary: 3 months. Birthday gifts: 1 day etc. When they remained without time they dropped dead. They say the authors have taken some concepts from "Time Paradox" and put them in the movie.
