The title of the book reminded me of the times in college. When some friends wanted to go out on dates they always kept borrowing shirts, scarfs, jackets shoes from their friends in order to impress the girls more :)
I remember to be seeing some of them to be going out very nicely dressed but none of the clothes they were wearing was actually theirs. The same would happen the other day when somebody else wanted to go out on a date. This of course is a fine example of collaborative consumption :)
Generally speaking I am totally thrilled and amazed by the idea since I think it is an essential factor to enhance the making of big leaps forward. And the finest representatives of collaborative consumption are the open source processes like Wikipedia, 7-Zip, Mozilla Firefox, Linux, Python, MediaWiki, Moodle, WordPress etc. etc. Many many people have spent their precious time and energy in trying to give a hand in creating these very helpful tools and softwares and the irony is that most of them wouldn't have done so if they were paid to do it. A very important aspect of human nature is exploited in making collaborative consumption so successful and that is "Doing something because you like it"

Nice pic though, are they for collaborative consumption : )
YanıtlaSilBeside the jokes, I remember that time too, and I totally agree with you that is one perfect example of collaborative consumption. I think also some economical theories like absolute advantage and relative or comparative advantage explained since Adam Smith's theories and time are based on this very principle. Comparative advantage is when two countries produce different goods and/or services and exchange these between each other. This way is more efficient for both countries.
Of course this is a larger discussion that "borrowing" theory. This is more a "bargaining" theory, nonetheless, still what is produced in one country also belongs to the other.
I guess I am one of those friends who used to borrow shirts or jackets in those happy times in high school. Unfortunately this does not happen anymore. In those times we were all students and so there was not much differentiation between us. But nowadays, since I am a banker, I like to differentiate myself from others so it’s a shame for me to borrow other people’s clothes. I may even buy one costume and I wear it only once just to show that I can do that.
YanıtlaSilI don't know Mario. It depends on their know-how on the bargaining theory ;)

YanıtlaSilYes, today you are a banker and it is your right to boast it. But there are many other things bankers share with other people. If you don't have a car you share the bus or the train or the airplane. And if you read wikipedia or if you have an account on facebook you inevitably share stuff.
And personally, I think is not a bad thing at all, in times of war, God forbid, people come very closer and start sharing everything.
The time of the schools was the best ones. I remember too that we shared everything clothes, shoes, books with each other. It was the time when we never saw what we will expect with each other if we will give our staff. I found very intersting the fact of the sharing but still I am a little sceptic about the willigness that have the poeple to share their staff. I heard about sharing the home rent or car but nothing else (speaking for Albania).
