The Time Paradox

The time paradox is one of the books I enjoyed the most during this course. Time is a concept defined by two point of views, as a dimension in which everything happens in a sequence and oppositely as not a real dimension but an intellectual concept together with space and number that enables humans to sequence and compare events. Even though measurable through a system, often time is perceived differently. Try to think how fast passes one hour when you are experiencing something great that you don’t want to finish and how one hour feels like 10 hours when you are experiencing something you didn’t wish to.

Trying to remember famous phrases for time, and there are many of them, it comes to my mind what my grandmother used to say : When I thing about my life it all feels like seeing a movie time

The author present six time perspectives or orientations (negative, past-positive, present-fatalistic, present-hedonistic, future, and transcendental-future) which I find very true (and I found at least one person I personally know for each one of these).

He argues that future oriented people are more likely to be succeeding and have money because they plan and save, usually have a schedule list and do things “on time”.

Trying to see the time concept from every perspective the lesson I get is that time its not just “money” it’s everything, it’s the blank sheet we write in the story of our live and as such we should think carefully how to spend it, because the most noticeable characteristic of it, is that it passes and cannot be returned.

  1. Hi Sadihana,
The author present six time perspectives or orientations (negative, past-positive, present-fatalistic, present-hedonistic, future, and transcendental-future)but I cannot still make my mind which type am I. I mean to say that each of us may be more than one type in diferent stages of his life. We sometimes feel negative for the past, some other cases nostalgic and so on. i would agree that being future oriented gives us better possibilities to success in our goals.
