Scott Shane explains why genes matter, and explains the important role that genes play in careers and career choices. He discusses how genes influence our work interests, work values, decision making, risk taking, management style, leadership style, creativity, entrepreneurship, and work performance, among other aspects of our work life. The nature side of this topic emphasizes how much of an organism reflects biological factors. Although author in all his research sustains more the idea that genes play the main role and has a powerful impact in everybody job and career. I think that in reality, it is most likely an interaction of genes and environment. Shane says that DNA accounts for over one third of the difference between you and your co-workers on many dimensions of your work life, from how satisfied you are at work to how you make decisions. I agree with the statement of the author that genes are not destiny; they are merely one more factor that affects the odds that something will occur. Also i think that the nurture side on other hand that reflects environmental factors plays also an important role in determining one persons career and career choice.
