This book is focused on ideas, on a creative process regarding innovation and improvement. This is not a typical business book, in fact it is a combination of psychology, management and stories. And at the end the main idea is regarding the process of creating these beneficial ideas. It is a kind of guide of a creative thinking, how to construct the right one and then there are shown some steps in order to perfect one idea.
It is interesting that through many examples, we can easily see that borrowing is a source of ideas, you just take the existing ones , recombine them in order to innovate and this way you become creative.
In fact learning by stories is productive. that's why he mentions many business examples such as Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Google. He says that we are not Steve Jobs but we can think like him.
And, he explains the case of Apple Ipod. and he believes that the success of Apple was at first, at redefining the problem, they could see the problem at the point of view of a customer. Then after using existing ideas, bur recombining them they manage to change the way people listen to music to day.
On my opinion, this book together with Little Bets, are good incentives of innovation and creativity in business but even in every day life. It was a a book full of benefits , because encourages every one to try , and also gives directives how to try the right way and be successful.
I think the first step should not be called “Define the Problem” but should be called “Create the Problem”. Because most of the times there is no problem per se but “great” managers create them. Let’s take Apple iphone as an example. We were fine before it was invented, we will be fine even after it will have disappeared. However, nowadays we feel bad if we don’t have one whereas other people do. How crazy is that? And we owe this bad feeling only to the “great” managers that have convinced us that we cannot live without an Apple iphone.
YanıtlaSilIndrit is right in my opinion, there is someone wise I have read of, who lived in 1900's and was a well-known writer. He writes that with the money or wheat or material that a person can produce in older times like 1900's, he could fulfill all of his needs 100%(and of course his family's needs) with 20% of the salary(money, or gold or whatever). Nowadays, and he's talking about his days, with 100% of the salary we can not fulfill 20% of our needs.
YanıtlaSilI think time has created endless needs and products, which are letterly impossible to fulfill, not in this life we can't, not if we lived a thousand years. Because human nature is greedy.
There have lived a man some 14 centuries before who describes this everlasting need for precious thing and its cure like this:
" ONLY SOIL FULLFILLS MAN'S EYE"
Indrit I have nothing against your argumentation. But consider the following scenario. Prior to the invention of the TV or Cinema people were fine without those too. But the following generations which were imprinted with those concepts since birth cannot be fine without them. Generations to come will see the Iphone, LED TVs etc as indispensable parts of their lives. The same as we did for the TV or the internet in the first place.
YanıtlaSilThe devices which our parents and grandparents were fine without
YanıtlaSilactually thea combination of psychology, management and stories are the insprations for the people.without them how can they find new ideas?Starving for news will trigger the inspration then god will give like steve jobs.
YanıtlaSilWell in this blog Ajkuna, i understand your opinion about the book and i agree with you. Ataraxus, i don;t agree with your statement that people were fine without TV or Cinema years ago. The average life of person has been grown year by year, and if people lived averagely to 40-50 years, now this average has been grown due to improved standard of living, which includes also TV or cinema.
YanıtlaSilI also think that this book has an important contribution in innovation of business. Although it is part of a new concepts, borrowing ideas and combining them has been part of important peoples like Albert Einstein, that means that this concepts was present times ago. Personally i have always thought that there ideas have been sparked only by them, and could not imagine that their ideas were a combination of other ones.
