The How of happiness!

Reading through the pages of How of Happiness, reminded me a beautiful film which I saw some years ago, with Will Smith, entitled “In the pursuit of Happiness”.

It talked about a poor guy, married and with a child, without a fixed work, with poor economy, whose life has became worst day after day, until one day even his wife left it alone with the little child.

Some from his bravery and luck, and the fact that hi finally realize what would make him happier, very soon he became one of the richest people in USA.

I would never forget what he taught to his son, when one day, as they were playing basket and he asked his son what would he became when was a grown up, and the son replied that he would became e basketball player. Than he discouraged his son by saying that you will never became a basketball player because you don’t now how to play. Than his son was very upset and said as you wish father. Than he grab his son from the shoulder, looked him in the eyes and said. “Don’t ever let anyone crushing on your dreams, including me. Follow them as they shall make you happier.”

In the book Sonjia Lyubomirsky shows us that we can change not only the fact of being or not happy, but also gives us a new way of meaning for happiness. She learn us, that what could make us happy could and often are not material things like money, a good job, a big house, but the way of thinking, new incentives for little things who in the end cause more happiness than having material stuff.

This I great book, worth reading in it, as this book help us by contributing in expanding our horizon and the way of thinking of happiness

I want to conclude with a beautiful experession about happiness by Thoreau who said that “Happiness is like a butterfly; The more you chase it, the more will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder… ”

  1. I like and agree with your last quote Ardit. If we are obsessed with achieving smth we simply don't enjoy the ride. In most of the cases the pleasure when smth is accomplished is intense but of short duration. After it passes we are left with a void filling a vacuum. But if we learn to enjoy the way which brings us to the accomplishment we will feel much more fullfilled.

  2. I agree with both of you.The last quote that mentioned Ardit is very special and meaningful.
Happiness sometime seems real and other times surreal because is impossible that people be happy all the time.
The main reason for that is the fact that sometimes the happiness of somebody is unhappiness for somebody else.

  3. Your last expression rejects the assessment of the happiness program done by the author. I think that one person no matter where you fall on the happiness and depression , everybody can learn how to apply to his/her own strengths and weaknesses the happiness enhancing strategies of the "How of Happiness" book, in order to make yourself happier and more fulfilled.
