The how of happiness

Being happy. All what we do in our lives, serves to the ultimate goal, to achieve happiness. In the majority of cases, the paths that we follow to strive towards this goal takes us far from it rather than close to it. A serious study as it is the book we are analyzing, which looks into the ways of life which lead to happiness, is very handy which provides us with foundations of a better understanding of such issue.

Let us analyze the circle of happiness, which represents the percentage of things that cause happiness in general terms. I would partly disagree with the conclusion that in 50 percent of the cause happiness is genetic as I believe that happiness is a feeling which is related directly to the soul rather than our bodies, it is a spiritual phenomenon rather than a physical one. We cannot deny the role that than our physical condition plays, per say, if we suffer from an physical illness, that affects our wellbeing and so our happiness, but it is not the main reason behind it.

In my opinion there should be different approach for this matter. I consider that the Achilles Heel on this issue is that we should not consider ourselves in two different views: separately and as a part of the society.

As a person, things that make us happy are good health, to do a job that you love for living and ensure enough incomes for your family, and so on.

Oscar Wilde Postulates that there are three conditions that a human being should fulfill in order to achieve happiness:

1. The scientific truth

2. The religious truth

3. The way-of-living truth

In the scientific truth he indicates that a person should have a minimal knowledge of how the nature works, how things happen around us. The ability to scientifically give answer to your self about such questions makes us happy

If a person has a religious belief and its committed to it, its able to explain things that cannot be explained by science, then he will be happy.

In the third one Mr Wilde explains that a human being should always seek for ways to improve his life conditions, to make it easier and in a same time meaningful. To try to live in a way that is far from everyday’s routine by trying new things and experiences. To have a successful life is an integral element of our happiness

On the other hand it is a very important part of how we feel the state of people around us. If we live in a happy environment then in most of the cases we are happy, and same for the opposite case. According to this view we should pay attention and care to our society, to put our efforts to try to make it better, to enhance their ways of life, the communication and interaction between its members. As a result it will of course have a major impact to our lives and our wellbeing.
