RUSH

According to the author of this book, "Competition is the root of our success". Competitive instincts are embedded in human genes, and to the extent that competition drives us to excellence, it is not only a positive force, it may well have been the force most vital to human development. We compete for rewards. Competition breeds innovation; innovation means progress. The author believes that there is a connection between competition and happiness. He believes that happiness can be derived from rushing around. He says: "We feel better chasing the tails, even if we never catch. The hunt makes us happier."
The book highlights examples of research to show that people who work for what they get are better satisfied than those who get a free ride. People like to compete because they like to win. According g to the author in a society where there everyone gets rewarded there is no need to compete and there is no progress.

  1. when we were children at the class we found the competition a way to be successful , the teacher said who will finish the home work first , who w'll solve this problem he will reward a star in his notebook , so it is the normal in our life every one want to have a reward ( material or morale ) doesn't matter , and for societies , communities , companies even countries it is the way to develop our life , to explore new things

  2. Dear Artemisa,

I don't know if competition is the root or the stem for success but I think it is very important. History has told us that we cannot have single factors for single results. I mean that there is a mixture of factors affecting the outcomes, especially success which is a very broad term.
Considering the abusive and irrational nature of human beings I think that a proper balance is what causes success and well being. I'd like to mention a quote by Barry Scwarz: Everything suffers from competition
