THE
STAR PRINCIPLE
I found the book The
Star Principle written by
Richard Koch to be very interesting and with a lot of important messages clearly presented. The theories are
illustrated in excellent way, real life examples and case studies where the
author has practiced what he preaches to reap great rewards.
An excellent read that could have triggered the readers some very exciting ideas.
This book must be read
for all private equity investors and everyone thinking of changing jobs.
Richard Koch quickly shows how to identify a "star business” and the
rewards that can be achieved by investing in one of a kind or working in one like this.
This book is not a technical manual but for the more a quick guide with plenty of real
life examples of businesses that have been stars or are still stars.

The problem with this book is that the author Richard Koch takes a post mortum approach, i.e. after the fact. He studies the businesses after they have reached success. And then he infers that they were stars since the beginning. However, it seems to me like an impossible task to spot star businesses at the start. It is pretty much like the foreign exchange market. If you look at the graphics after there has been a rise in the market, all the dealers can infer that there was a clear sign that it was going to rise since before. However, all the dealers tell this thing after the time to start trading has passed.
YanıtlaSilI agree with you Indrit that author takes a post mortum approach, but in every bussines it is difficult in the firs steps to imagine that the bussines will be star or not, but approximately each co-owner or shareholder has their ideas on what kind of business wanted to be.
SilIn general i agree with Indrit. The book is very good who want to learn the history how the author was done rich. he claims that if we want to earn more money we shoould invest our money to a STAR company or work for such companies. In fact when I have read the book and tried to compare with the situation here , it was seemed for me not adapted expeacially here in Albania when the competetion in the market is not defined yet. For not speaking for the big companies which the possiblity to rise the "carrier scales " is not more than 5 %.
YanıtlaSilI agree with your given opinion that this book is not a technical manual but for the more a quick guide with plenty of real life examples of businesses. The author stated that creating a new niche is like creating a new species by mutating an existing one. I don't think that it is an impossible task to create a star business since there are a considerable number of huge business which are stars. The book describes a powerful recipe for identifying star businesses, all steps of course are done based on real examples.
